this.
Refused, “Liberation Frequency”
The chorus is a blistering splintering of your internal organs. Such a fancy, skilful bunch of punks. I believe this song will change your life and give an outlet for your repressed agitations. A local skate shop owner mentioned this band to me.
The absolute GOAT. Virtuoso piano player and the smoothest,
most fiery and ever-passionate vocalist. Harrowing account of a
poverty-stricken chap who stole food and was sentenced to years on a
chain gang. The song digs deeper into civil rights and the burden that
Nina and other African Americans endure.
Dark, with a 6/8 rhythm that pulls at the seams. Orestes is
the devil most famously known for murdering his own mother at the
direction of the god Apollo. The stereo chorus, tape style delay and
lush hall reverb serve to strike you down from the intro on.
Edwyn Collins, “A Girl Like You”
Mum loves this song and it’s got this vintage twist that sucks
you in. The guitar lines in between the vocal lines in the verses really
resonate with the ominous, biting feels of I’m No Slave. The use of the
vibraphone takes you back to the 60’s, Northern Soul, and Motown records.
