Quiet as a Mouse shares five tracks that helped shape the sound and emotion of their current single, “Miss Melody,”
To me, ‘Miss Melody’ is a raw indie rock pop song; so, I have chosen five songs that go against the grain as pop songs and have influenced me over the years. This is one of my favourite Lennon songs; it’s a beautiful song where his love simply shines through.
This is my favourite Wilco song taken from their best album by far, this song is so beautiful, intimate and fragile. I love the soundscapes and subtle sounds Jay Bennett brought to Jeff Tweedy’s songs on this album (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot).
Modern Baseball, “Timmy Bowers”
Modern Baseball is one of my favourite more modern bands. I was initially blown away by the talented writing of the two main songwriters, especially as they were so young at the time. The dreamlike hum of this song reminds me a little bit of the outro of ‘Miss Melody’.
This is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion. I’m always striving to write a rock pop song as good as this, even if I get halfway there, I’d be happy. I just love how it keeps looping around, its like one big chorus over and over.
The Goo Goo Dolls influenced my singing when I was recording the new album (‘Nostalgia is fine..but…’). The singer really powers out the choruses, especially on their album after this song (‘Dizzy up the Girl’). I chose this song of theirs as it’s really underrated and one of their best.
