With emotional honesty and vulnerability, Grace Nikita’s latest release marks a powerful chapter in her evolving artistry. We asked her about stepping into the studio for the first time and what Need You More Than Ever represents now that it’s out in the world.

This release feels like such a confident step forward. How does this track reflect where you’re at right now as an artist?

Oh my gosh — I wrote this track in 2023. So this track is old. The recording was 2023–2024, so so much has happened since then.

It was the first time that I was actually in the studio with a real producer, with the band, with all these people that knew what they were doing. And I’m like, oh my god, we’re singing my song. This is crazy. This is insane.

But I’ve obviously been in the studio many more times since then, so I’ve come a very long way. But it is a very staple part of my journey.

Did the writing process for this track come quickly and instinctively for you, or was it something you had to really sit with and shape over time?

This song came in like two nights.

It started with the riff, and then the lyrics and the feeling and the whole story just waved in — you know, like this gentle cloud. I was just like, this is exactly what I needed right then. I was like, this is exactly how I’m feeling.

And it just waved in, and I was like — it’s done. It’s done. That’s it.

Now that Need You More Than Ever is out in the world, what do you hope people feel when they hear it for the first time?

I hope that people connect to it.

It’s definitely about friendships, grieving, and a point of change in life. Even the lyric of “new beginnings” — oh my god. So much was going on.

You’re grieving the old part and going into the new. So I hope people can relate to that in any aspect of their life, because life is hard enough, guys.

What are you writing at the moment? What’s coming up in the new future — the new chapters?

Oh my god. I’m hoping an EP. I’m hoping an album. I’m hoping a rebellious, blamey teaser thing. I don’t know — I guess we’ll see.

It will take some time, but we’re writing.
