Layered with shimmering electronic textures and the vulnerability of a debut release, RIEPLAY unpacks the nostalgia behind the title, the genre-blurring sound, and what this milestone moment represents.

Dreaming of Yesterday is such a nostalgic title. What does it mean to you, and where did it come from?

The title Dreaming of Yesterday came from the song Dreaming of Yesterday, which was the first song that I wrote that I felt proud of enough to release.

And actually, to get the name of the song, I used one of those old name generator websites and it came up with like ten options. And I’m like, Dreaming of Yesterday — that’s the one.

Then I wrote my lyrics based on that title, to be honest.

Was there a central idea or story tying the songs together, or did that reveal itself later?

To be honest, these five tracks are the first five songs that I felt comfortable with releasing.

I got a grant from Creative Victoria to be able to release my first project, and so I was like — those five songs, they get released.

My next project will be a bit more coherent with the story.

How would you describe the overall genre of Dreaming of Yesterday to someone hearing you for the first time?

So my EP Dreaming of Yesterday is electronic rock.

And that’s a bit of a broad term because it spans from house to hyperpop to garage.

But yeah, somehow it all sounds together.

If this EP captures a moment in time, what do you hope listeners take away from it?

This EP to me captures 2023 to 2026 — from when I started writing it to now sharing it with the world.

And I hope that my EP’s soundtrack would bring some time for you — whether you’re listening to it or feel it for whatever, that would be cool.

You can find my music across all streaming platforms under the name RIEPLAY — that’s R-I-E-P-L-A-Y — because my nickname is RIEPLAY.

The new EP  Dreaming of Yesterday” is out now. Thanks so much for chatting with I Don’t Blame You Media!
