Five tracks handpicked by Chloe Poli that shaped her vulnerable new release, “Going Through It All At Once”
Fleetwood Mac, “Never Going Back Again”.
This is my favourite song ever! My Dad played this song when I was younger. I remember specifically saying you’re gonna listen to one of the best songs ever, he then played this song, and he was so right!! I always seem to listen to it, and I never get bored with it!! This song has influenced me in terms of the sound of the acoustic guitars and their rawness/emotional lyrical topic. Their music overall has influenced my music.
I discovered Nick Drake while I was going through a tough time and I was really starting to get into acoustic music. Pink Moon is one of my favourite albums ever and this has to be my favourite song off it for sure- it’s so simple but so complex and deep at the same time. His has been a big inspiration for my songwriting and stepping outside of my comfort zone with different guitar tunings!
Let’s get some excitement- this is such a fun song and it’s gets me all excited every time I listen to it. It’s just so nostalgic and freeing this track. I love everything about this song, the weird and fun lyrics, the chorus arpeggio guitar has a been a big inspiration and has been shown through my music and is the best part of the track.
The 1975, “Me & You Together Song”.
My favourite band in this century and a big massive inspiration of the music I’m making at the moment! This is my all time favourite track by The 1975. At the time (years ago) I wanted to listen to new indie music and I saw an 1975 ad on my Facebook, and thought let’s check them out, best decision I’ve ever made. Matty with his beautiful, silly and heartbreaking lyrics with this pretty jangle/indie pop music on this track, it just feels so awesome. Matty thank you for being an inspiration on my writing and music making journey!!
Paul McCartney, “Let Me Roll It”.
I had to add Sir Paul to this list, how could I not, my all-time most favoured solo artist, he has inspired me when it comes to every aspect of my music- whether it would be a chord progression, melodies and even my songwriting style. I love The Beatles- omg I’m in love with The Beatles, but when he created Wings and The Band on The Run album, I was like that’s my jam baby!! Let Me Roll It, is my favourite song from the album. The lyrics are sweet and romantic: ‘I can’t tell you how I feel, my heart is like a wheel, let me roll it, let me roll to you’! Like, wow how romantic!! The music is amazing, I’ve been digging this style of music lately and I just love this song so much!!
