Some projects don’t ask to be understood quietly. For Melbourne artist Xandri, that demand comes in the form of a bold new EP.

So you’ve got an EP coming out. Tell us about it.

I do—I have an EP coming out. It’s four songs, and it’s called Why Can’t You Admit You Never Wanted Any Kids!

That title definitely grabs attention. Tell us a bit about why you chose it.

I wanted to call the EP that even though it’s way too many words. I wanted it to be striking—and brutal. I wanted it to reach anyone who’s maybe felt like that, even if it’s not true.

I think we all have moments where we feel very unwanted. And I don’t know—I feel like people might like the songs and relate to them. That’s the joy of songwriting and the joy of being an artist.

It feels very emotionally honest—almost confrontational in the best way.

Yeah. You’re not only writing it for other people or for people to consume—you’re writing it for yourself. It’s very therapeutic.

I was thinking about how, if I had heard some of these songs when I was younger—maybe 13 or 14—it really would have helped me feel understood about my big emotions.

That’s such a powerful way to frame it—writing the music you once needed.

Yeah. I don’t know—I’m just really excited about it. I hope it connects with people in that way.

And when can listeners hear it?

You should stream it when it comes out on October 25th.
