With years of songwriting behind her and a sound that continues to evolve, Kaiyah Mercedes is stepping confidently into a new musical chapter.
How long have you been writing for now?
About five—six years. Yeah, six years I’ve been writing.
That’s a solid amount of time to really develop your voice. How would you describe your genre or writing style?
I started more in a singer-songwriter, folk kind of style. Then I shifted into indie pop, leaning into that dreamy sound.
Now I’m trying to move more into indie pop rock, which has been a really fun shift. It’s so much more upbeat, and it’s honestly so fun to play live.
Speaking of live—there’s a show coming up in Brunswick on September 20. Tell us about it.
Yeah! It’s going to be at The Bergy Bandroom. It’s a venue I’ve played at a lot, so it’s really exciting to be back there. The show’s a matinee too, so you’ll be home in time for dinner.
Daytime shows are underrated—we love that.
Exactly! It’s going to be really fun. And people should definitely stay tuned because there’ll be a special announcement about a music video at the show.
That’s very exciting—definitely one to catch live. Thanks so much for chatting with I Don’t Blame You Media
